The Garden Quarto publishes short works (500 words maximum) on gardens and related topics. Students, faculty, staff, administrators, alums, and friends of the college are all eligible to submit. Genres can include poetry or prose, fiction or nonfiction, personal or scientific. Although pieces focusing on the Alumni House Garden are certainly encouraged, compositions on any topics connected with gardening are welcome, including such possibilities as:
• Shrubs, flowers, and trees commonly found in gardens.
• Gardening experiences, childhood memories, observations, advice.
• Descriptions and stories about gardens you have visited.
• Birds, insects, rabbits, slugs, and other garden inhabitants.
• Portrait of an important gardener in your life.
Submissions for the fall issue are due by November 1; submissions for the spring issue by April 1. Digital copies can be sent via the form below. A small honorarium is provided students whose compositions are accepted for publication. Each issue also includes a "Commonplace Garden" with short passages on gardening by an assortment of diverse authors. Provided below are links to pdf copies of each issue.
